Guwahati, 19th November: GNRC Hospitals today honoured a host of social icons at its Dispur unit today. In a programme designed to mark the contributions of various torchbearers of Assamese culture, literature, Arts and Media to the society, Dr. N.C. Borah, chairman of GNRC today felicitated them in an elaborate manner. The participants include the likes of noted litterateurs Lakhmi Nandan Bora, dramatist Arun Sarma and Abhijeet Bhattacharjya, noted artist Nilpaban Barua, senior journalist Haidor Hussain and Prasanta Rajguru, noted writers Anuradha Sarma Pujari, Manikuntala Bhattacharjya, Maini Mahanta, Monalisha Saikia, senior actors Abdul Mazid, Dinesh Das and Malaya Goswami, icons of mobile theatre Ratan Lahkar, Krishna Roy, noted film directors Munin Barua and Ashok Kumar Bishoya, popular singer Zubeen Garg, popular actors Jatin Bora, Kapil Bora, Prastuti Parashar, Aimee Barua, Utpal Das and Raag Oinitam.
On the occasion, Dr. Navanil Barua, convenor of the event and Director of Neurosurgery department at GNRC Hospitals announced a special scheme for these social icons. Under this scheme they can avail free healthcare facility at all the three units of GNRC Hospitals. Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Barua said, “This felicitation programme and the free healthcare facility is an attempt to express our gratitude to the significant contributions made by these icons to our society. Their contributions have played a major role in the overall uplift of our society. We would like to mention the names of other noted personalities who are covered under this scheme but couldn’t make out to the event for various reasons. They are noted litterateur Homen Borgohain, poet Nilim Kumar, writer Rita Choudhury, noted singer Dipali Borthakur, actor Nipan Goswami, Pranjal Saikia, Chetana Das, Tapan Das, Jayanta Das, Barasharani Bishoya, Akashdeep, Munmi Phukan, Asha Bordoloi, singer Angarag Mahanta, Simanta Sekhar and Priyanka Bharali. We are planning to cover more such icons in the near future along with people from the folk culture also.”
