Guwahati, September 5, 2016: Continuing the saga of driving knowledge enrichment for North East India’s medical professionals, Guwahati-headquartered GNRC Hospitals conducted an International Continuing Medical Education (CME) programme on Sports Medicine and Arthroscopy organised at GNRC Dispur on September 5, 2016. The event was attended by around twenty specialists in Sports medicine and Arthroscopy specialists, apart from general practitioners.

Dr Denny Lie Tijauw Tjoen, Associate Professor and Senior Consultant, Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, Singapore General Hospital (SGH) graced the CME. Dr Denny Lie has published numerous papers in Sports Medicine and Arthroscopy. As a scholar of medical science, he received many awards including ‘HMDP Fellowship for Sports Medicine’ in 2001. He was also honoured with many awards as a medical practitioner including the SGH Service Quality Award 2004 and 2008.

The second guest speaker was Ms Lian Li Cheryl Poon, senior Physical Therapist at Singapore General Hospital . She is a well-known faculty in the field of Physiotherapy and is known for her research works.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Nomal Chandra Borah, Chairman cum Managing Director, GNRC, said: “India is vast country with huge sports potential. Injuries happen to every sportsperson, of varying severity. It is important for every player to get these injuries cured immediately and be fit.  It is essential for every doctor to be aware about sports medicine and be proactive in such situations. The objective of the event is to make everyone aware about the importance of Sports Medicine and the benefits of following best practices in treatment and recovery.”

On behalf of the assembled medical fraternity, including the doctors and physiotherapists, the Orthopaedic team of GNRC Hospitals (Dr. Pranjal Mahanta, Dr Shantanu Sarma, Dr Ankur Hazarika, Dr Gautam Rava, Dr Abhishek Yadav, Dr Krishanu Kakati) expressed deepest gratitude to Dr Denny Lie and Ms Lian Li Cheryl Poon, for accepting the invitation to conduct the CME programme on Sports Medicine and Arthroscopy.
